Range Rules & Safety

All range users are expected to read and follow these rules before using the KWF shooting range. Safety is the responsibility of every person on the range.

Range Safety Is Non-Negotiable
Violations of safety rules will result in immediate removal from the range. Repeated violations may result in loss of range privileges. When in doubt, treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
Section 1
General Range Rules
1
All users must sign in using the digital logbook before accessing the range. The gate code does not substitute for sign-in.
2
Range use is available to KWF members and their guests. Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times.
3
Eye and ear protection is required for all persons on the range, including spectators.
4
No alcohol or controlled substances before or during range use. Anyone appearing impaired will be asked to leave immediately.
5
Children under 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times while on the range property.
Section 2
Firearm Handling
1
Treat every firearm as loaded. Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.
2
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you are ready to fire.
3
Always be certain of your target and what is beyond it before firing.
4
All firearms must be unloaded and actions open when moving between shooting positions or leaving the firing line.
5
Firearms must be cased or bagged until at the firing line and pointed downrange.
6
Fully automatic fire is prohibited unless the shooter holds the appropriate federal authorizations. Semi-automatic fire is permitted.
Section 3
Range Conduct
1
Cease fire commands take immediate effect. When anyone calls "Cease Fire," stop shooting immediately, unload, and wait for instructions.
2
No one goes downrange until all shooting has stopped, all firearms are unloaded, and the range is declared safe.
3
Treat all other range users with respect. Aggressive, threatening, or unsafe behaviour will result in removal from the property.
4
Clean up your shooting position before leaving. Pick up brass, remove targets, and take all garbage with you.
Section 4
Range Access
1
Gate code is confidential. Do not share the gate code with non-members. Contact the club to arrange guest access.
2
Range hours are dawn to dusk unless a scheduled event extends hours. Check the Events calendar for any closures.
3
Close and latch the gate behind you on entry and exit. Leave the property as you found it.
4
The range may be closed for maintenance or scheduled events. Closures are posted on the Events calendar.
Section 5
Targets & Equipment
1
Paper and cardboard targets are permitted. Steel targets are permitted at approved distances only — confirm with the club before use.
2
Glass, explosive targets, and improvised targets are strictly prohibited.
3
Targets must be placed on designated target frames only. Shooting at the ground, berms, posts, or range infrastructure is prohibited.
4
Remove all targets and frames when done. Do not leave targets stapled to frames for other users to deal with.
Section 6
Emergency Procedures
1
In any emergency, call 911 first. Kindersley is served by RCMP and Kindersley & District Health Centre.
2
A first aid kit is located at the range shelter. All users are encouraged to have basic first aid training.
3
In the event of a misfire: keep the firearm pointed downrange, wait 30 seconds, then unload carefully. Do not attempt to clear a hangfire by pointing the muzzle in an unsafe direction.
4
Report all incidents, injuries, or near-misses to the KWF executive. Contact information is on the Contact page.
